Traffic is a vital component to any business. This may be feet through your door if you operate a traditional high street store or visitors to your website if you run a business online or use the internet as part of your marketing plan. Article marketing can form a vital part of any successful marketing plan and this article aims to explain just what it is and how you can use it to build your profits.

The internet is a powerful source of information for all kinds of people. It may be that someone has a particular interest in a subject and they simply want to find out more about it. It may be that someone needs to research a certain topic to help them with their work or perhaps for a qualification. It may be that someone wants to achieve a specific objective and they need to find out how to go about it. Whatever the purpose the end result is the same and that is a desire for knowledge. The internet can provide this knowledge and one of the key ways this is achieved is through an article. People with knowledge in a subject area can write and produce articles which are then used by all the categories of people who are seeking that knowledge identified above.

People seeking knowledge do so on the internet through the use of keywords and the search engines that are available. The most predominant of these of course is google. Others such as Mircosoft’s bing and yahoo are also widely popular. Someone will enter the term that is most appropriate to what they want to find information about. This is called a keyword. For example, if someone wants to find out where a good place to make an investment is they might enter the search term “good investments”. The phrase “good investments” is called a keyword. Yes a keyword can be a phrase as well as individual words. Many of my clients initially perceived that a keyword had to be just one word. In fact, most people search on a combination of two or three words as in the above example.

If you have written an article that contains the search term entered your article will be displayed in the list of results for that search and so available to view. Now the subject of how to ensure your work appears high in the list of results is a topic all of its own so look out for my subsequent articles that will explore that topic.

This brings us on to the key question from the title “Can articles make you money online?” The simple answer is yes they can. If you have a product or service that you wish to sell over the internet then you can increase sales of that product or service through writing articles that include a link to your website that promotes your product or service. If people like what they read and they feel it is helpful to them and want to find out more they will click on your link, arrive at your product website where they are more likely to buy from you given that you have already given them information of value.

It is important therefore to make sure that the articles you write are relevant to the product or service that you wish to promote. It will serve no purpose, for example, if you write an article about a cooking technique which contains links to a website promoting the best place to invest your money for a high return. You can easily see how useless such an article would be.

To summarise then yes articles can make you money if you follow some simple rules.
